Anniversary Getaway
I thought maybe it would be nice to schedule a short getaway around our anniversary. We can totally do dinner - but this could be fun too. Our anniversary is on a Saturday so it works out pretty well. So, here are some options for your consideration.
Night in Detroit
This is the easiest since it’s close to home and we’re planning to have dinner downtown. We could just spend the night downtown. Here are a few cool options.
“Our spacious Detroit hotel rooms have a residential feel with hardwood flooring, curated amenities, and cozy mid-century modern furniture, built to age gracefully.” Many rooms to choose from. This is the Den King available for $305. Or if you wanna go nuts, they have a loft for $575.
This is the hotel we always recommended our clients use back when we used to be able to travel. They also have a cool restaurant. The deluxe King is available for $271.
A very boutique place. Eclectic design. Smaller rooms. Different. The Parlor room (King) is available for $269. Or spring for The Chamber Suite, a penthouse level room with views of Detroit and Canada for $339.
While we’re downtown there are lots of things we can do. In fact, the folks at the Foundation were nice enough to put together a list of suggestions.
Brunch & coffee: Vivios, Eastern Market, Henry the Hatter, Iggies Eggies, Avalon Bakery
Museum Love: Motown Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, The Detroit Historical Museum
Morning movement: Detroit Riverwalk, Citizen Yoga
Nightcap & Nightlife: The Belt, The Skip & Standby
Saugatuck
I’ve never been but people rave about it. And there are a few nice AirBnB properties there. Here’s one available for $299/night for two nights.
Or we could go Glamping - which I personally think would be fun.
There seem to be a lot of choices in Saugatuck. Another property with a bit more space (and a hot tub) available for $344/night.
There are also some luxury hotels in Saugatuck. Here’s one place called Bella Vita with some nice options.
Getaway House
And now for something completely different. Steve Nykerk told me about this place. It’s called Getaway. He and Jennifer went there. Basically they’re tiny houses set in nature. When you check in your put your phone in a lock box. There’s one on the west side of Michigan. It’s already booked the weekend of our anniversary. But the following weekend is open. Or, we could book a weeknight stay and I can take a couple days off of work.
Cool AirBnB
So some other ideas to consider….
First up, is a private room in a bed and breakfast in Spring Lake Michigan - which is on the west side. So as you’d expect it’s kinda country - but something different.
Here’s an entire cabin in South Haven. A bit pricey at $499/night for two nights, but pretty cool.
OK. So just some thoughts. Lemme know what you think.
Love,
Petey
